Tall Boys - Final Kick 12"

Side One: Final Kick
Side Two: Interceptor + Dragster + Action Woman

Nigel Lewis after his departure from the Meteors went on to form the Escalators and the Tall Boys. The Rockabilly element was more or less dropped and the sound leaned more toward New-Wave/Punk with a 60's Punk influence. This 12" "Final Kick" from 1985 is again hard to pigeonhole ... but do we really need to put tags! It's brilliant anyway!!! Give it a try!

The Vibes - Can You Feel E.P.

Purple Side: The Underestimated Man + Double Decker Bus
Green Side: Mini Skirt Blues + Stranger In The House

Back in November 2006 John posted a few tracks from their one and only LP (the links are OK). Here's their first release from 1984.... this EP made me go BERSERK back then!!! I still regard this release as a masterpiece. Not unlike the Sting-Rays this band mixed a lot of inluences: Rockabilly, 60's Punk, Punk... and achieved to create a unique and spellbinding sound.
Psychobilly, Garage-a-Billy, Trashabilly... call it what you want! IT SIMPLY ROCKS!

The Sting-Rays - June Rhyme 12"

Side A: June Rhyme
Side B: Militant Tendency + Wedding Ring

John already posted their great 12" "Don't Break Down"(1985) back in February 2007 (The links are still working fine). He also perfectly introduced the band. Here's their following release from 1986. The Sting-Rays sounded like no other.... Swinging Punk at its best!

The Straps - Just Can't Take Anymore 7"

My first post for Punks On Postcards... OK this one didn't take too much effort. Anyway this little piece of vinyl from 1980 is a gem. I first bought their excellent LP a while back and then tracked down what could be found and it was worth it. All their early material is on CD now. Like so many bands from the 80's the Straps reformed (can't think of many bands from that era that did not reform). For more info visit their site: http://www.thestraps.co.uk/
(I'm starting to wonder if John didn't post that one already!!!!)

Hardskin - Same Meat, Different Gravy

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Wat you have here my friends, is old faves Wat Tyler giving it the big 'un as an old school Oi! band. It makes me laugh like a drain, but then i've always had a base sense of humour. Not much makes laugh out loud. These boys do. I love the fact they've got themselves booked as a 'legit' Oi! band across the world. Entertaining evenings i'm sure.

English Dogs - All The World's A Rage

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

With a revovling door line up and shifts in styles over the years, the English Dogs have seemed to always been around. I love the early stuff, I enjoy the metal stuff. But, me favourite is 1995's 'All The World's A Rage'. Original vocalist Wakey's return to the band since those early days. It's catchy as hell, it has hooks galore, great lyrics. Overlooked LP. Give it a try.

Adolescents - TJ's Newport 21/07/08

Another great night at TJ's last night. With get this, The Adolescents, Riot Squad (Yeah Thee Riot Squad! Fuck the Tories!) Di Capo and Hadonfield. Cracking Line up. Unfortunatley Peroxide's camera has gone AWOL so no pictures for you lovely people.
If your in the London area, go and see the Adolescents at the Underworld.
One of the best gigs i've been to this year. Don't think the boys who put it on broke even, which is a shame. You all should get out a bit more kids, instead of sat at home typing. Even Bernard from Nuclear Farmed Fuck Frogs dragged his unemployable arse out. You should have too. Missed a good 'un.

Novocaine - Frustration No. 10

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

A re-post from last year. Novocaine(known as Novocaine NP9 in the States, NP9 being the post code for Newport) formed in Tredegar, Gwent during 1994 by Steve Evans (voc) (Later of Vel-Tone) & Richard Jackson (gtr) (both ex Dog Quarry), later joined by Russell Edwards (bass) & Bert Lewis (drms). Shortly after getting together they had a one off single deal with Liberty Place Recs releasing 'Modern Man/Brain' (LP004). A year later a 2nd single 'Tension/Daddy's Money' was released on Townhill Recs (TIDY 002), this led to a deal with Fire Recs who released two L.P.'s 'Frustration No. 10' & 'Nervous Disposition'along with several singles.
Influences ranged from Crass to The Pixies, Fugazi to The Buzzcocks and all points left of centre.
After Richard left in 1999 the remaining members went on to form Vel-Tone releasing 'Underneath Beautiful Skin' again on Fire in 2000 before splitting.

Newtown Neurotics - When The Oil Runs Out

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Ok, i'm on a roll, and i'm starting to find it irksome. I'm with Nuzz and Highlander on this. I'm all for responsibility for your actions. It's a laudable thing. But when it becomes 'Our Fault' for the shit we're staring into. Because, 'We throw away too much food? 'Handy hints to save fuel','Don't drive with you windows open', 'make sure your tyres are at the right pressure'.
Bio-fuels are now a no go because they 'put up the price of food'
Whats the cost of running an oil pipeline across most of Arabia? I'm sure you could irrigate most of the Sahara for a fraction.
The old add age was 'You need a good war to get you out of a recession' patently, two shit ones have taken us straight into one.
I used to have a tape when I was a kid with the first Newtown Neurotics album on one side & Youth Brigade's 'Sound & Fury' on the other. I played that tape to death. Find both.

Action Pact - Yet Another Dole Queue Song

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Not another Action Pact post! Yes i'm afraid. It's a good many years since i've had to cash an old 'Nightboat To Cairo', but things is looking a bit grim out there at the moment. Specially if you work in the old building game like what I does. When you have an economy that works in boom & bust and uses the construction industry to regulate it, it's expected. If the mortgage companies were prepared to lend people those ridiculous amounts of money, what the fuck did they expect? And what did happen to all that money the government gave the banks to bail them out? Has it fallen down the back of the sofa? Are they going to pay it back? It's taxpayers money after all. If I was lending you dear reader a couple of bob, i'd like some sort of indication of when I was getting it back. Enough!

All - She's My Ex

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So, Milo went to college, but as The Descendents dissolved something equally as wonderful emerged. All have released some first rate records over the years despite the changing vocalists. This just happens to be one of my favourites. Best love songs since The Buzzcocks, easy. If you click the sleeve above it'll take you to the All site which also links to The Descendents as well. Get some Descendents tracks Here, including the brilliant 'When I get Old'.
This single comes from All's third LP, 1989's 'Allroy's Revenge'. Great LP & Scott Reynold's does an excellent job stepping into Dave Smalley's shoes.
And no, don't read anything into this post. I've not been crying into me Blackthorn for the last 11 weeks!
Been lucky enough to see this lot a few times in Newport, great live.
