Les Thugs : Radical Hystery
Kept it in France for this post. Les Thugs. Another John Peel favourite. I owe so much of my listening taste to Peel as do many people of my age.
Les Thugs were a great band, formed 1983, with a sound that fitted right in with many of the American West Coast Hardcore bands of the time, early Social Distortion, Youth Brigade, Moving Targets et al. but still with a unique sound of their own. Joy Division playing Buzzcocks numbers? Maybe.
Released a record on Sub-Pop "Strike" and worked with Steve Albini towards the end of their career splitting in 1999.

Nasty Facts : Drive My Car
This has appeared on a few of the other older blogs around before. Scott at Strange Reaction, I remember raving about it, but this is my rip so what the hell. Nasty Facts from New York. 1981 on the French Fifth Column Records label. My copy is now in Osaka Japan thanks to E-Bay and a particularly large gas bill. I originally bought it for 50p at a car boot in Redditch about 12 years ago on the off chance having never heard of the band. Rear cover scan from Punk Rock Picture sleeves. Thank you. Please pogo.

T.V. Smith's Explorers : The Perfect Life
Single release from 1981 from former Adverts front man T.V. Smith. Has always written consistently intelligent and pertinent lyrics throughout his musical career. Will probably be playing a toilet near you sometime soon. Still one of the great songwriters of his generation and should to my mind be recognised as such. If the B side of this "Imagination" had been written by Bowie it would be still hailed as a classic today.

Truth Decay : Fat Punks Can't Pogo
Sheffield Band: Truth Decay was an early 90's hardcore punk rock band from Sheffield, whose members would prove influential in keeping the Sheffield punk scene alive.
The band was initially a 3 piece with Rich (bass), Jake (drums), and Darren (guitar). They recruited Stu (vocals) in early 93 and spent the next 3 years touring the UK and Europe (czech republic mainly). They released "Another Day Wasted" on Step One records, however, just before this release, Darren left the band (after recording a czech only 10") and was replaced by Ade.
The band was constantly changeing its line up until they split in late 98. One further 7" appeared, and the band have played together a couple of times since for friends parties.
Rich would joined Bickles Cab as a drummer.
Jake writes a fanzine Anthill.
Stu became the permanent bassist for Last Years Youth before they split and now plays bass in BurnSubvertDestroy.
Outside of the bands both Rich and Stu remained the only people willing to put on punk shows in Sheffield in the late 90's, and both continue to do so.
Entertaining EP and I had to share that lovely vinyl with you.

Novocaine : Frustration No. 10
Novocaine(known as Novocaine NP9 in the States, NP9 being the post code for Newport) formed in Tredegar, Gwent during 1994 by Steve Evans (voc) (Later of Vel-Tone) & Richard Jackson (gtr) (both ex Dog Quarry), later joined by Russell Edwards (bass) & Bert Lewis (drms). Shortly after getting together they had a one off single deal with Liberty Place Recs releasing 'Modern Man/Brain' (LP004). A year later a 2nd single 'Tension/Daddy's Money' was released on Townhill Recs (TIDY 002), this led to a deal with Fire Recs who released two L.P.'s 'Frustration No. 10' & 'Nervous Disposition'along with several singles.
Influences ranged from Crass to The Pixies, Fugazi to The Buzzcocks and all points left of centre.
After Richard left in 1999 the remaining members went on to form Vel-Tone releasing 'Underneath Beautiful Skin' again on Fire in 2000 before splitting.
It's the first full length album ever posted here. Get it.

Rub Ultra - Brown Box Nitro (Dog's Life)
"After feasting royally on corduroy and egg custard, they stepped into the alchohol vehicle and sped off into a smirched urban sundown, clutching good toys, their staring eyes were strange, from within the box there came a murmur - no, a growing sound, reverberating coffee-stained steel somewhere between orange peels and things. THEY SHOULD WASH THAT DIRTY BOX."
..... yeah right. Ok.... Underrated, heavily Bad Brains influenced. Contemporaries of Senser etc. The 90's revival marches on. Or not.

Rub Ultra - Wind It (Bacchic Afterthought)
Rub Ultra - Earth Adjustment

The Dark : Einstein's Brain
The Dark formed in late 1978. This is their third single on Fresh Records from 1981. Recorded at Crass' Southern Studios.
After they split in 1982 Langham went on to join Action Pact and later formed Anagram Records, the Punk Rock offshoot label of Cherry Red. He died at the age of 27.
They seem to be largely remembered these days for the track "The Masque" which seems to crop up on various Goth comps from time to time, but The Dark had far more in their Arsenal than that.

Papa Brittle : Polemic Beat Poetry
Similar to the last post I give you Papa Brittle. Great live band. Politically charged Punk Rock/Hip Hop. Think Dub War, RATM, Senser and your getting there. Great lyrics, one part Gil Scott Heron, one part Crass. Anarcho Funk Rock. 1996 Play It Again Sam Records.
