Outcasts - Blood & Thunder

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1982 Abstract/New Rose records Northern Ireland's The Outcasts. I think a combination of the first "Punk & Disorderly" LP (the track "Mania" was included) and a John Peel session of the time, which included at least four tracks off this L.P. has cemented it in the old psychee. To my mind a far superiour version of "Frustration" is included on this L.P. than the original 7 inch of a few years previous.

Track List:
Winter (Martin Cowan) 3'15
Machine gun (M.C.) 2'25
Sex and glory (M.C.) 2'40
Gangland Warfare (M.C.) 2'55
Programme Love (M.C.) 3'12
Princes of Oblivion (M.C.) 3'33
Frustration (M.C.) 2'14
Angel Face (Rossall + Shepherd) 2'40
Magnum force (M.C.) 2'32
Beating and Screaming (Pt 1) (M.C.) 3'00
Beating and Screaming (Pt 2) (M.C.) 2'54
Mania (M.C.) 3'08

Check out this video for "Winter". Camp as Christmas.

Beautiful Days Festival : August 17,18,19.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The Summer, (what bloody Summer) is coming to an end & I get to go to my first festival of the year. The Levellers Beautiful Days Festival in Devon. It's a nice vibe there, like a little Glastonbury without all the commercial bollocks. Prices are reasonable and people are really friendly. Strange line-up this year KT Tunstall (WTF?), Gogol Bordello and Levellers headline the main stage. Must sees for me, along with Gogol Bordello, New Model Army, The Damned, Fishbone, R.D.F. and The Men They Couldn't Hang. The Levellers are playing the same time as The Damned which is a pain. Happened last year with Killing Joke playing same time as Julian Cope (saw Joke caught end of Cope) so i'll be running between stages I expect. See you when I get back people.

Levellers - Battle Of the Beanfield
See I said I come back to it.
Levellers - Subvert
Levellers cover the mighty Zounds.
The Damned - I Think I'm Wonderful
I do. And so is this. One of my favourite Damned tracks.
New Model Army - Smalltown England (Live)
One of the best live bands out there for my money. Ever. Go see Nuzz Prowling Wolf, and get a mighty fine live L.P. Say hello while your there. Laters Clarts.

Big Black : He's a Whore / the Model

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

7" released in 1987 on Touch and Go (TG23), Blast First (BFFP24).
Two covers, Cheap Trick and Kraftwerk, with the 7" sleeve imitating the covers of both of the original singles. Both are better than the originals. Either of these would make the perfect first dance at your wedding. Trust me. Your Nan would love it.
Click the "The Model" sleeve for an article by albini titled "The Problem With Music".

Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias : " **** YOU"

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I love this single more than Christmas. From 1978, they were essentially a bunch of dada satarists and old Hawkwind support act, releasing their masterpiece in "Snuff Rock". My favourite however has always been this charming little ditty which sounds like Derek & Clive fronting The Clash.

Stonehenge E.P.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Bluurg Records 7 inch compilation from 1987. A benefit and call to arms, to get people to start attending Stonehenge again en-masse. There had been some very heavy situations there in the years previous to this. The best known being the infamous "Battle Of The Beanfield" in 1984 when the old bill run amok smasing up vans and festival goers. More of that later this week. Features Military Surplus who would later become R.D.F., more of that later this week to.
Great title track from Culture Shock. Go back & do it again!

Black Easter : Ready To Rot E.P.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Someone asked for a re-up of this so here it is. Black Easter, 1982 Illuminated label. Some great comments on this last time.
Anonomys Said: "Yes they were from Farnborough. I knew them as my friend at school Ben Norris (Now quite famous comedian and cousin of Ricky Gervais)used to follow them about. His sister used to go out with one of band members. I was in a photo shoot with a load of punks and skins back in about 82 for a cover of a Black Easter release. I would love to get my hands on that now!"
GBP Said: "Black Easter/Skrewdriver gig 1983 at Feltham Football Club. Pure carnage, a total fucking riot. Now those were the days."
This would seem to be their only release. Pity.

Four Letter Word : Words That Burn E.P.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Forming in Cardiff, Wales, U.K. in 1991, Four Letter Word signed to BYO records in 1997 after the Stern brothers heard their 1995 debut 7" EP 'Words That Burn'. F.L.W. went onto releases two full length albums and a 7" with BYO between 1997 and 1999 of their melodic and political punk rock; 'A Nasty Piece Of Work', 'Do You Feel Lucky, Punk?' and 'Zero Visibility (Experiments With Truth)'. They toured the U.S. and Canada extensively in the summer of 1998 to promote the first two BYO releases, touring and playing with such bands as Youth Brigade, 7 Seconds, Swingin' Utters, Pinhead Circus and Brand New Unit. Legal problems and a revolving door line-up plagued the band for years, but Four Letter Word continue to play to the present day, with new releases and tours in the pipeline.
