No Tag - Oi! Oi! Oi!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Bit of New Zealand Punk Rock for you today. Don't be put off by the sleeve, (camper than a Judas Priest L.P. cover) or the Oi! thing. This is a great single, sounding more akin to The Fits or Chron Gen. 1982 Propeller Records. The guitarist, Andrew Boak, was originally in a Mod revival band, and it shows. Click front cover for interview with him.Garageland has posted their only other release, a live L.P. which is also worth your time.
While your there check out some other great N.Z. punk including The Warners L.P. 'Hit & Run' from 1987, which sounds like Poison Idea having a scrap with the Cowboy Killers.

This still sounds good to my ears after all the years- they did backing vocals on the DK's Bedtime for Democracy-how that happened i don't know.

if you click rear cover you get the full story, but it goes a bit like this... played with DK's when they played NZ, then from Mystrex blog,

In November 1985, No Tag were banned from the Windsor Castle. They affected the numbers in the other bars for up to two weeks later, the manager reckoned. In mid-1986, the group left in dribs and drabs for London. Andrew and Carl went via San Francisco. Did you play in San Francisco?

The only thing we did musically there was some backing vocals on The Dead Kennedys’ album, Bedtime For Democracy, and that was just Carl, Blaze (Carl and Paul’s younger brother), and myself when we stopped off in San Francisco on our way to meet up with Paul. Mark followed a couple of weeks later.

It was just because we were in the right place at the right time. We were hanging out in the Alternative Tentacles Records office about the time that the row with the PMRC about the Frankenchrist poster Penis Landscape, and Jello came out and asked us if we were available that night to do some vocals. We had nothing to do and were chuffed that he even offered, so that evening we spent a couple of hours in the studio with Jello and an engineer. Klaus Fluoride was producing another band in the same studio complex, so when we had finished we went and said hi to him and he took us out for a drink at a local club. It was a great experience.

So there you go.
Cheers for comment. Yup still sounds fantastic.
